Print cropping of the portrait Dreamed Before.

Dreamed Before, is the first piece in Katrin Schroeder's golden portrait study, Guilded Butterflies. This self-portrait explores identity, the soul, and the transformation each undergoes throughout one's lifetime. It depicts the artist at a pivotal moment, in which she is waking up physically and spiritually.

The piece is named after the experience of simultaneous disillusionment and clarity. In english Deja Vu translates to 'already seen,' and describes the familiar feeling one has when experiencing something new. The less commonly known counter part to this French phrase is Deja Reve, which means 'Already Dreamed.' Deja Reve is a precognitive dream, a feeling of Deja Vu is linked to. The subject in this environment is in a state of feeling both, as she has just awakened to the direction of her higher self, and yet, that it is not a new idea at all.
